Everyone is looking for treasure isn’t it? Not literally, but metaphorically.
We all are looking for something that leads to a joyful, fulfilling life that is full of treasures, and riches of various kinds, and in doing so we need to figure out our own strengths, pathways, and the big question of who are we going to be?
I came across this beautiful video by Astra Nova School, the off-shoot of Ad-Astra School started by Elon Musk, about 3 kinds of people involved in a treasure hunt and I thought it's a beautiful way to not just answer a conundrum but also figure out whom we relate with the most. Here is how it goes:
An ancient treasure is found and 3 people were involved in a successful treasure hunt
The researcher
The translator or decoder
The treasure hunter
The researcher puts in long hours in researching, looking for the treasure map in the most unlikely places without any surety of reward. Once the map is found, the translator decodes the map into an actionable step-by-step treasure hunt journey. And once decoded, the treasure hunter goes through the arduous journey, taking the risks, and finding the treasure.
Now the conundrum: “Who should get the most share of the treasure?”
The researcher, who puts in so many hours without any assurance of a return? The Translator, who is a super-specialist without whom the encrypted map is useless. Or the treasure hunter who takes the maximum risk to go through the journey and unlock the treasure?
What do you think? Pick an answer and your reasoning.
Now, coming to the parent question: Who do you relate the most with when it comes to working? What kind of work do you like to do?
Researcher: Researching, applying all your critical thinking skills, and figuring out answers to complex problems?
Translator: Decoding, building products, writing codes, designing stuff so that something can truly come to life?
Treasure hunter: The risk taker who ensures that once something has been discovered, and decoded, it reaches its conclusion. People who build businesses, institutions, and more.
What's your personality? Try and pick one.
And this I feel is the first step in understanding your own strengths, likes, and dislikes. Remember, the answer to this may keep on changing and sometimes it will be hard to just pick one, and that's okay.
